Albania Overview
Albania, officially known as the Republic of Albania, is a country in South Eastern Europe with a coast on the Adriatic Sea to the west, and on the Ionian Sea to the south-west. Albania borders to Greece to the south and south-east, to Kosovo to the north-east, to Montenegro to the north-west and to Macedonia to the east. Albania is also less than 72 kilometres (45 miles) away from Italy, although the closest regular ferry line between both countries - from the town of Durres in Albania to the town of Bari in Italy - has a distance of 217 kilometres (120 miles). Albania is a member of UN, NATO, the Council of Europe, WTO, Organisation of the Islamic Conference and is one of the founding members of the Union for the Mediterranean. It's capital is the city of Tirana. |
