Norway Overview
Norway is one of the Nordic countries in Northern Europe. It occupies the western part of the Scandinavian Peninsula and the country's official name is the Kingdom of Norway. Norway is one of the most sparsely populated European countries with its relatively big territory of 385,252 square kilometers (about 148,747 square miles). Norway's extensive coastline that faces the Atlantic Ocean and the Barents Sea is home to its famous fjords.
On land, the majority of the country is bordered by Sweden to the east; the northernmost region of Norway borders Russia to the east and Finland to the south. It is also connected to the Kindom of Denmark to the south across the Skagerrak Strait. The capital and largest city of Norway is Oslo. The other major Norwegian cities include Bergen, Trondheim and Tromso. |
