Slovakia Overview
Slovakia is a country in Central Europe, part of the former republic of Czechoslovakia. Its official name is the Slovak Republic and covers a territory of about 49,000 square kilometres (19,000 square miles). Slovakia is a landlocked country having borders with Austria and the Czech Republic to the west, Hungary to the south, Ukraine to the east and Poland to the north. The country is a member of the EU, UN, NATO, WTO and OECD. Slovakia's capital and largest city is Bratislava. The other notable Slovak cities include Košice, Banska Bystrica and Prešov. |
